My design concept is inspired by a migratory bird, the Northern Lapwing. It builds its nests out of any material within reach, to create a cosy and secure home for its young. I would like to create a home that is inexpensively built with locally sourced, recycled and upcycled materials, using simple technologies that even an unskilled hand could participate(cheap labour). The future occupants of the home could actively participate in the construction process giving it a personal touch as memories are made together. Sir Winston Churchill once said, “… we shape our dwellings, and afterwards our dwellings shape us.” The dwelling will be a sanctuary… no… nest, to nurture a family.
