Spaceloft is a mission driven housing concept. It’s mission is to reach out to other planets, other galaxies to become an interplanetary species.
Spaceloft itself is a large affordable lofthouse with extra space for high ceilings, special staircases, a library, an art atelier, a technology lab, an office and a large roof terrace for telescopes, jacuzzis and roof parties. The Spaceloft is a place for an enjoyable life, where children, parents and grandparents have all the time and space to study, work, start a business, invent, experiment, can play, make art and have fun.
The spaceloft is 6 meters wide, 9 meters high and 12 meters deep. The front and back facade are completely open, which means side stability comes from a steel structure in both front and back facade. The facades can be opened easily to be able to bring in all sorts of prefabricated interior elements. Complete bathrooms, kitchens, staircases and other elements. This means the interior can be installed within hours. A new kitchen or a new bathroom is easily swopped within a few hours.
The goal is to make this Spaceloft available for 50.000 euros. The Standard spaceloft has a surface of 210 m2 floor area and 650 m3 in volume. And on top of that there is a roof terrace of 72 m2.
To lower the cost of the Spaceloft, a standardised large space casco is developed which can be mass produced without resulting in “sameness”, uniform and despiriting neighbourhoods. The spaceloft can be ordered without infill, this allows the consumer to design their interior themselves or let someone from their close circle design a special interior. Spacelofts can also be stacked on top of eachother to create denser neighbourhoods. There is also enough space to share a house, split it in appartments or make a studenthouse out of it.
The quest into space to explore the mysteries of life and explore planets – based on science, technology and art – can give children new hope, and purpose, for generations to come.
