Helix – Grow Your Community
A happy home should be for everyone. In 2018, it shouldn’t be a novelty to have a safe, secure and comfortable place to feel at ease and live a comfortable life. And social housing is no exception. Architecture, design and technology has the potential to innovate in this space – and more needs to be done.
We have created helix-shaped townhouses that can accommodate two separate families at a time – because a community starts with two. The design starts with two identical objects mirrored, sloping up in a helix form. Looking at the exterior, the townhouses are identical, but internally we wanted to create a flexible living space by introducing movable partitions. As such, the space has the potential to completely open up, close up into separate rooms or reorganise in the resident’s own way.
We wanted to create a sense of openness by introducing the mezzanine level with a double height void space. This also has the potential to enclose with retractable flooring, should there be a need for higher occupancy.
On the outside, there is a stepping communal green zone.
Helix is a shape with growth potential.
