Folding House Project
With the objective of renewing the habitat of emerging cities in a sustainable manner, the proposal aims to diversify the way of life of generations Y and Z with a reciprocal thinking of polarities (urban/rural, intimate/social).
The Folding House Project was conceived framed in the standard dimensions of a shipping (but it’s not) container to expand its nomadic transport possibilities; therefore, it’s possible to imagine a dwelling capable of establishing itself in a conceptual cluster inserted in the urban environment, eventually being transported in leisure time to the nearby natural territory or even migrating to other distant contexts.
With the dimentional limits of the structure, the potentiality to expand it was explored through a kinetic strategy, which consists of a pivoting rotation that allows
extending its surface from 15 to 22 m2. The achievement of this functional flexibility allows it to be habitable in an intimate environment when it’s folded and enlarge it for a social scenario.
In the rural context, the proposal is conceived as self-sufficient through solar energy and the capture of clouds with its own materiality filtering the water through its striated textures. For the urban performance, the project is formulated to be connected in the conceptual cluster that due to its scale could obtain greater resources with a more efficient way.
